Culture of Koraput

Koraput has an art and craft that are the products of a long historical process in which the spiritual, philosophical and the human dimensions have merged to yield the finest effects of a cultured and civilized life. This art and craft only have made the state a land of rich and diverse artistic achievements. The cultural heritage of Koraput is reflected in its vibrant art forms. Having distinct traditions of painting, architecture, sculpture, handicrafts, music and dance, Koraput boasts of a long and rich cultural heritage.

Car Festival  Koraput is mostly famous for its Jagannath Temple which is also known as Sabara Srikhetra. Srikhetra is normally referred to as Puri Jagannath, but the unique identity of the Koraput temple is because of the fact that no section of the society is barred entry.

 

PARAB PARAB is the mother of all district festivals. Every year PARAB is expanding its arm large. Koraput region, being the mosaic of tribal life and culture and heritage of the Country, specific emphasis is being given to highlight the cultural heritage through PARAB, the Annual Festival of Koraput District.
The main objectives of these exhibitions have been:
To enable the rural producers to get direct exposure to the market and get feedback from the end users.
To provide a chance to the general public to buy art and craft of different regions directly from the producers.
To provide the marketing channel for Swarojagaries assisted by various Government anti-poverty programmes.

Dhemsa Tribal Dance Dhimsa is a tribal dance form that is performed primarily by Porja caste women in India.
This expressive dance is dominated by the movements of feet and hands of the group performing the dance in a circle. Though this dance can be performed by men and women, young and old, typically around 15-20 women form a chain and move their feet according to the rhythm and make formations of smaller to larger circles. There are several variations in this dance. The popular twelve variations are: 1. Bhag Dhimisa 2. Natikari Dhimsa 3. Kunda Dhimisa 4. Pathartola Dhimisa 5. Pedda Dhimisa 6. Sambor Nisani Dhimisa 7. Bayya Dhimisa 8. Mouli Dhimisa 8.Choti Dhimisa 9. Boda Dhimsa (Involves worship of their ritual goodness or god in villages.) 10. Goddi Beta Dimsa (Dancer moves both backward and forward with the swinging of body.)
